In September 2021 as well as my role managing the ports of Plymouth and Teignmouth I took over as Head of Operations in Newport overseeing the operations at the port.• Port Management responsibility as outlined below.• Leading the delivery of safe operations ensuring a continuous improvement mentality and ensuring we deliver against KPIs.• Leading cross functional teams across Engineering, Marine, Commercial, Property and Compliance to ensure the needs of our customers are met.• Managing, with full accountability, the P&L, including development of the 5 year business plan, across the three ports.• Developing detailed business cases and presenting to the board to ensure continued growth of the port.• Leading engagement with customers and key external stakeholders including the local authority.

As Port Manager I have overall responsibility for ABPs ports of Plymouth and Teignmouth including full P&L accountability. I am responsible for safety, operations, engineering and commercial opportunities at the port.• Leading a cross functional team to ensure the ports deliver safely in line with the group strategy and business plan showing year on year growth.• Engaging with local stakeholders and customers to constantly improve relations including local authority and national government.• Work collaboratively with HR, finance and compliance across the region to ensure a consistent approach.• Work with the group legal function in drafting commercial contracts and local agreements.• Management of customer contracts and ensuring service delivery in line with those contracts• Development of operational plans and budgets and ensuring delivery of P&L against those plans and budget.• Partner with the Head of Commercial in order to achieve strategic commercial objectives, developing growth through a service culture designed to maximise opportunities and enhance the customer experience• Achieves operational excellence and continuous improvement by setting stretching team goals, delivering high quality communication, planning, analysis, decision making and project management. As Deputy Harbourmaster and Pilotage manager I was responsible for running the pilotage service across 5 ports in South Wales. I also took on the PFSO responsibility for the 5 ports as well as overseeing day to day marine activities across the port, working with customers to improve the marine service delivery.• Delivering a pilotage service across the South Wales ports that is efficient, flexible and appropriate to our business and customer requirements.• Line management of Pilots including the promotion of a team approach.• Manage the PEC process and the authorisation and revalidation of Authority Pilots.• Management of the recruitment, training, development and authorisation of the SW pilots. Ensuring they have sufficient knowledge to be able to operate independently on a day to day basis.• Management of budgetary performance of the pilotage service• Maintain a close relationship with internal and external stake holders and customers• Ensure that ABP South Wales Pilotage operations are formally risk assessed and that the risk assessments are reviewed and amended in line with ABP requirement• Investigate marine incidents and ensure statutory reporting is carried out• Responsible for emergency planning across the five South Wales Ports• Engage with the MCA on PMSC compliance and local marine operational issues• Responsible for pilotage procedures and overseeing the marine safety management system• Deputise for the Harbourmaster as required

As assistant marine superintendent, I oversee the day to day operations of the tug fleet in Milford Haven. Managing 9 tugs and 80 crew members I ensure that the tugs are able to operate safely and efficiently to fulfil customer requirements.• Managing day to day operations• Ensuring tugs are manned in accordance with STCW requirements• Ensuring tugs are in compliance with company SMS, National & international legislation as applicable.• Carrying out management inspections• Liaising with customers to offer an efficient service of a high standard• Preparing monthly operational meetings including a breakdown of the P&L account.• Liaising with the port authority with port emergency response and towage requirements• Conducting safety meetings with shipboard and shore side staff• Work with Marine Standards to promote safe operations, quality assurance and security of the business• Carry out incident investigations and close out open cases and proactive reports in the company’s incident and safety reporting system• Act as duty marine officer• Co-ordinate with salvage companies to affect salvage operations and special services on the west coast of the UK• Drive up employee engagement through effective day to day management of people• Manage the input of order, work time and billing details in the tug job order management system• Working closely with union shop stewards to manage a heavily unionised workforce and ensure commercial excellence

As 1st Officer Safety I am a watch keeping officer but also responsible for safety and training on board the vessel. As the vessel is in port for longer periods of time the emphasis of my work is on safety related matters.• Responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel• Conducting all safety related training.• Operating ribs, zodiacs and overseeing water sports activities.• Training of zodiac drivers• Carrying out safety investigations• Updating training manuals and ISM related documentation• Experienced at navigating in Arctic and Antarctic waters, including ice navigation.• Co-ordinating with expedition staff in planning daily activities and overseeing the zodiac operation• Advanced planning of expeditions to remote parts of the world• Passage planning.• Carrying out dive expeditions in conjunction with on board dive masters.

Working as a sole watch keeper for a 6 star luxury cruise company focussed on guest satisfaction and safety.As 1st Officer I was a solo watch keeper for a 6 star luxury cruise operator focussed on guest satisfaction and safety. I was also responsible for the maintenance of the GMDSS equipment and tanks.• Responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel• Conducting training of crew members in Personal Survival Techniques• Up keep of paper chart, publication and electronic chart corrections• Operator of GMDSS equipment• Responsible for inspections and maintenance of tanks on board.• Assisting with investigations and following up safety reports.

As 2nd Officer (Navigation) I was responsible for the day to day running of the bridge. I was in charge of all aspects of passage planning and ensuring that the itineraries provided by the head office were followed. I was the senior watch keeper and on the 4-8 watch usually responsible for the arrival and departure of the vessel from port.• Responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel• Conducting training of crew members and familiarisations with new crew• Responsible for all route planning on board as well as future cruise planning• Coordinating with different departments on board to ensure the itinerary meets the operational requirements of the vessel.• Up keep of paper chart, publication and electronic chart corrections• Operator of GMDSS equipment• Inspecting all navigational equipment and ensuring it is fully operational• Planning the 2014 world cruise this included passage planning, coordinating with agents and port operations.• Experienced in single watch keeping and dual watch keeping as the senior watch keeper• Interacting with passengers, co-ordinating tendering operations and discussing navigational issues with passengers.• Spent time in head office working on a new navigational policy including implementation of full ECDIS on all vessels and going paperless.• Spent time with the UK office team developing 2015 itineraries working with the destinations manager and commercial manager.• Responsibility for overseeing the maintenance of the firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances.• Creating the daily work rota for crew members working for me setting jobs to complete and ensuring these tasks are done within a strict timeframe.• Reporting to senior management and the shore side technical office any defects that needed to be rectified

Starting as a customer assistant on checkouts part time, I became team leader on produce after finishing school, assisting the department manager with the day to day running of the department including staff rotas, waste and shrinkage management, stock rotations and promotional events. On the options programme stepped up to produce manager also assisting with a new store set up in Hungerford.
