Tom J. Obengo has recently completed a stint as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Epidemic Ethics at the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town under the supervision of Prof. Jantina De Vries. He remains a member of the Epidemic Ethics Team at the Global Health Network https://epidemicethics.tghn.org/Who_we_are/Our-Team/ through which he engages with the discipline globally. His current research interests include Epidemic Ethics, Genetic Therapies on Debilitating Illnesses, the African Ubuntu Ethics, the Ethics of Care and Gender Roles in the Context of Pandemics, and the Influence of Religion on Bioethics. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Applied Ethics, specialising in Bioethics, from the University of Stellenbosch. His doctoral dissertation titled "A Utilitarian Assessment of the Relevance of Genetic Therapies for HIV/AIDS in Africa, with Special Reference to the Situation in Kenya" was carried out and completed in the Department of Philosophy at Stellenbosch under the supervision of Prof. Anton A. van Niekerk.
