This was a highly demanding role in a critical, high-pressure area of the business. This position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Trustpower’s middle office framework and ensuring trading transactions (of electricity, gas and carbon) are managed within the scope of the energy trading policy. The key to the success of this function is communication as the role of the Middle Office Analyst includes:• Ensuring adherence to Trustpower’s strategy, energy trading policy, and relevant reporting and disclosure regimes;• Undertaking an active risk management role through monitoring and reporting on financial and trading exposures in accordance with defined policies and procedures;• Validating and processing all trade deals (electricity, gas and carbon) and ensure compliance with Trustpower’s policies;• Completing monthly financial reconciliation, settlement and reporting processes to ensure accuracy of third-party generation and hedge settlement data;• Having a strong understanding of the operational aspects of Trustpower’s business, including the relationship between front office (trading team), middle office, and back office (finance team); and• Understanding the various products that Trustpower trades, including (but not limited to) ASX futures, financial transmission rights, carbon credits, electricity hedges and gas.
Advisor Strategy & Regulation
This role involved acting as an intermediary between Trustpower and the various regulators and government to advocate for Trustpower on a multitude of regulatory matters. The key aspects of the role included:• Ensuring Trustpower was fully informed of evolving regulatory trends, and emerging risks and opportunities in the markets in which it operates (electricity, gas, and telecommunications);• Advocating for a regulatory environment that is supportive of Trustpower’s operations, whilst also mitigating associated risks, usually through the writing of formal submissions;• Engaging with internal stakeholders, external legal and regulatory contractors, and industry regulators on various regulatory matters;• Preparation of written responses to requests from regulators and government ministers where appropriate;• Identifying and developing Trustpower’s position on regulatory matters to achieve the strategic and business goals of the company; and• Monitoring emerging regulatory trends, both in New Zealand and overseas jurisdictions.
Shipping Agent
This role is multi-faceted. The primary aspect of this role is undertaking vessel agency work. The secondary aspect involves working in the documentation side of the business and providing support to the incumbent documentation staff member.The documentation side of the role involves checking Bills of Lading, reviewing Load Documentation, inputting Manifests, reconciling Stow Plans as well as dealing with multiple principals and shippers regarding their cargo.The agency side of the business involves looking after the Captain of the vessel and the vessel itself while it is in port. It also involves corresponding with our sub-agents in the 12 other ports around the country. We are responsible for scheduling and berth planning for our load (and discharge) vessels, and assisting in other matters when required. We physically attend vessels in Tauranga and Gisborne and are required to complete arrival documentation, load/discharge reports and departure documentation. We communicate with all parties - stevedores, marshallers, fumigators, port companies, sub-agents, shippers, principals (owners), the supercargo, surveyors and even courier companies.It is a dynamic and ever-changing environment so there is always something to learn.
