In 2019 Tom co-founded a development company specialising in mixed-use buildings that combine office with residential or hotel uses in a way that uniquely benefits them both. After significant research and development the company filed a patent application in 2021.

In 2011 he established Lacey & Saltykov Architects in London with Andrei Saltykov. Their first completed project was a new-build pair of semi-detached houses in Wimbledon. The houses have been published in the national and international press and are award winning.They have recently completed their second project, a new house in Cornwall.The practice has worked on a diverse range of projects from new offices to university buildings. Following their success in a limited competition for Wimbledon College of Art they are now part of the framework of consultants for UAL.Recent commissions range from a new 300,000 sq ft office building in Farringdon to a 200 apartment block in Croydon.

Milan, Italy

In 2003 Tom moved to Milan, Italy where he joined Matteo Thun and Partners - a well-known multi-disciplinary company famous mainly for its success in the field of product design. From the outset Tom led the architectural department which soon after his arrival became progressively more successful and has expanded steadily ever since. In 2005 in recognition of his contribution to the company’s success, he was promoted to Design Director in Architecture. The practice was involved in many interesting projects in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Israel, Russia and several locations in the Middle East.

London And Madrid

In 1998 Tom was offered a position at Richard Rogers Partnership - one of the world’s leading architectural practices. Here he spent five years working on many high-profile projects. The highlight of his time at RRP was being permanently based in Spain, supervising the design and construction on site of one of the best buildings in the world - Terminal 4 at Madrid Barajas Airport, winner of the 2006 Stirling Prize - the most prestigious award in UK architecture.

After graduation Tom joined a prestigious international practice based in London, Dixon Jones, for two years as an architectural assistant. In this period he was closely involved in the practice’s, perhaps, two best-known projects: extension to the National Portrait Gallery off Trafalgar Square and the Royal Opera House in London Covent Garden.
