Pricing is responsible for creating financial levers and incentives to dynamically price across all 3 sides of the marketplace. Merchandising Algorithms is responsible for personalisation, ranking and relevance on the Consumer site.Finally, built an experimentation platform team that created a unified experiment tooling, analysis (pre + post experiment) and result dashboards that allowed any product engineering team at Deliveroo to safely set-up and run an experiment in minutes.

Managed multiple development and test teams across 3 different locations, working on major greenfield projects, building software for a new strategic infrastructure and services platform.Successfully delivered editorial CMS product, combining multiple production systems into a unified content origination platform vastly improving: production speed and delivery of news to customers; enhancing content reuse across teams and created foundation for semantic annotation of content.Managed development of a horse racing data capture and high volume data publishing architecture known as Frankel and Universal Delivery Service respectively. Frankel is a live betting data capture tool for real time betting status and market information. The platform had extremely strict Key Performance Indicators, hence visibility of state, system stability, and provision of 99.99% delivery reliability were cornerstones of the development.Led London Olympic 2012 engineering teams producing data widgets and semantically enriched news content. Fully localised widget platform served upwards of 46k RPS to customers like News International, MSN and Daily Mail. Semantically tagged news content powered the Webby Award winning London2012.com site allowing them to produce rich contextual navigation with little effort.Tightened existing development practises across distributed team as well as organising regular “All Hands” knowledge sharing sessions.Introduced DevOps discipline and hired first DevOps Engineer. Additionally set out programme of work to introduce complete automated build and deployment for all components, code progression and environment standardisation.Standardised recruitment process and introduced new technical assessments across disciplines.

Introduced development and accessibility standards. Assisted with talent acquisition. Key technical expert on Drupal development and hosting infrastructure procurements.

Led team of 12 client-side and server-side software engineers working as product lead on CMS: designing and delivering new features, prototyping augmentations to editorial workflow, developing tooling and leading departmental strategy on pan-BBC systems integration. Lead team in scrum process, planning and estimating work, running daily scrums and holding retrospectives. Designed tooling for site migration and redesign, permitting multiple development teams to iterate site builds efficiently, simultaneously to each other and autonomously to the core development team. Created functional prototypes to demonstrate CMS production workflow enhancements including sharing of assets and documents between language services using automatic language translation.Fostered improvement to team development practices and product planning, dramatically improved levels of documentation and increased the breadth and depth of automated testing. Standardised development life-cycle and cultivated tooling to automate deployment processes.

As the de-facto scrum master, coordinated with project stakeholders to gather requirements and priority, task breakdown and ran daily stand-up progress meetings.Created a content rendering and preview sub-system in Java under Tomcat, decreased content rendering times 10-fold to an average 10 seconds.Developed programme transmission schedule browser in Perl. Allows listeners to search for location-specific programme schedules, across different listening devices. Exposed an API to permit third-party integration.Designed complete localisation support allowing the entire the UI and all place names to be presented in different languages. Programme Guide at the time had one of the largest MySQL databases and one of the most complex search systems made available to the public via the BBC web site.

Joined team writing and maintaining the pre-existing Content Management System (CMS) written in Perl used across all World Service language sites. Responsible for bug fixing, general performance improvements and new site rollouts.Redeveloped CMS search functionality to use stemming and indexing to provide faster results, more efficiently to the user. Development and support of the A/V encoding and publishing engine in Perl using Class::DBI and interfacing with FlipFactory for the encoding.Prototyped a Javascript windowing toolkit to create a multi-document workspace which became the foundation of the new user interface (UI), built atop Prototype.js.

Developed web-based interactive Fire Safety training and certification application for Tyco. Consisted of an Adobe Flash interface, with a client management interface developed in PHP and MySQL.Joined team developing a streamlined, white label bulk purchasing and administration platform for DSL subscribers. Additionally, I was part of the team developing the consumer-facing web store. All developed in PHP and MySQL.

Working with a third party hardware provider, I lead the design and development of an in-store, touch screen kiosk for Sainsbury’s that allowed customers to browse, preview and buy CDs, DVDs, video games and books.Lead project through the complete development life-cycle from requirements gathering, through to system design and development and finally user acceptance testing.Developed system in Perl and mod_perl, using custom written ORM and MySQL database.
