Under his leadership, the HIR team developed technologies enabling automatic speech recognition, synthetic speech, interaction management, context aware engines, handwriting recognition, bi-lingual talking dictionaries, and image understanding applications (business card read and 2D bar code readers). The laboratory is comprised of three research centers based in Phoenix (AZ), Schaumburg (IL), and Shanghai (China). An essential part of the HIR labs practice is to include user centered design methods and rapid prototyping through its Experience Design and Prototyping team, and to drive their strategic direction with a Strategy and Architecture team.
