About Tom Matula

Matchstick Technologies is a life sciences company that aims to improve the workflow for multi-omics researchers. Our flagship product is PIXUL, a high-throughput sample preparation platform for fragmenting DNA and chromatin, lysing cells, extracting proteins, and so on. It is used in the fields of genomics, epigenetics, proteomics, metabalomics, sonochemistry, and more. At the Univ. of Washington, I run the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound (CIMU), a group of about 30 scientists, engineers, technicians, students and clinical collaborators that apply ultrasound to solve critical industrial and medical unmet needs. As a soft-money lab in an academic setting, our focus is on discovery, development and translation of our technologies. Much of our work focuses on technologies that have immediate or near-term impact. Recent startups from our group include SonoMotion (ultrasound-based kidney stone management, academic side led by Mike Bailey), Novuson (acoustic hemostasis, led by Stu Mitchell), and Matchstick Technologies (high-throughput epigenetic and genomic sample preparation).
