I was responsible for: facilitating both individual and group conversations about life, character development, faith, and values; overseeing the daily life of our residential service-learning community, which is comprised of eight students who commit to living together in intentional ways and to serving the greater Lafayette community; fostering an inviting and welcoming atmosphere in our ministry center; working in conjunction with other pastoral staff to orchestrate “encounter” ministry trips, the intention behind which is to cultivate a broader and more sensitive understanding among our students; maintaining and attending to all housekeeping needs at both properties.

I served as an addictions counselor on both the adolescent male, and the young adult male, primary care units. My position involved working directly with patients and their families, as well as those medical and/or mental health professionals who referred the young men to Caron, in order to provide quality therapeutic treatment for those suffering with addictions. I worked closely with an inter-disciplinary team consisting of psychiatrist, psychologist, clinical supervisor, fellow counselors, and support staff to offer our clients excellent and reliable service. My responsibilities included: facilitating individual, group, and family therapy sessions; completing intake assessments; crafting and updating treatment plans; writing case notes and documentation; helping to coordinate continuing care/next level of care arrangements; meeting regularly with the clinical supervisor for supervision.

As a part of my divinity school curriculum, I spent 400 hours being trained as a hospital chaplain. My duties consisted primarily of meeting one-on-one with hospital patients (and, sometimes, their families) in order to attend to their emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs. I also spent a handful of nights as the "on-call chaplain," which involved my spending the night at the hospital and responding to urgent, emergent needs.
