Building upon extensive experience gained in Shipbuilding and Oil sectors, provide wide ranging ICT advice to SMEs, including development of strategy and provision of Business/ I.T. Solutions, Project Management (Prince2 Practitioner), Information Systems Management Security (ISO/IEC 27001), Systems Analysis, Database design & application development (Oracle), Network Administration/development and Systems Integration within PC/Macintosh/Unix/Mainframe environments, web site design specification and use of digital marketing techniques and tools set within a strategic context.

• Management/ development of Apple Macintosh Network (60 Workstations) including (CAD Server, E-Mail Server, Correspondence Server, Database Server and AS400 gateway)• Migration from Macintosh to Microsoft NT Ver 4.x platform• Management/ development of Microsoft NT Ver 4.x PC network. • Analysis of company working procedures.• Specification and development of Oracle custom based applications to automate existing working practices. • Member of Global Steering committee for introduction of an Enterprise wide Document Management facility (including Work Flow and Change Management)

Responsible for the development of a Computer Integrated Manufacturing strategy for the introduction of a Factory Communications System at the Arbroath plant. Included introduction and management of UNIX based CAD workstations (IBM RS6000's) integrated with Engineering and general office applications operating on PC's configured using IBM's OS/2 Ver 2.0/2.1,connecting to the UNIX workstations using TCP/IP and NFS

Establishing the project, defining the requirements, selecting the supplier, producing cost/business justification and implementing the system were the initial duties of setting up this PC based CAD system with additional Kilo-stream remotely linked Mainframe Graphics workstations at this subsidiary of British Shipbuilders. Once in production, my responsibilities turned to the administration/support/maintenance and development of the network and covered the following.• System availability for production• Co-ordination of screen usage• Creation, implementation and running of training programmes• Creation and maintenance/development of Departmental Operational Procedures conforming to BS 5750• Co-ordination of user problems/queries• System security• Drawing recovery/system backup• Disaster recovery • Capital Expenditure submissions

Reporting directly to the Group Chairman of Composite Shipyards ( i.e. Merchant & Naval) this position involved establishing links and maintaining liaison with the Technical Directors of all of the British Shipbuilders shipyards. This position also included included having responsibility for arranging meetings and agenda to discuss shipyard requirements for new technology. Monitoring progress and reporting on individual shipyard projects for presentation to the British Shipbuilders Board of Directors. Other duties included contributing to the 'Composite Shipyards' section of the British Shipbuilders Five Year Plan (1985). Strong inter-personal skills and good communication abilities were a per-requisite for this role.

This being the first position on qualifying with B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering I was utilised in the Marine Engineering Drawing Office, Design Office and Estimating Department. Duties covered in these offices included but are not limited to - Design calculations - Pressure Vessels (BS 5500), weights and centres for steelwork and piping (wet & dry) for Semi-submersible Drilling Rig, thermofluid analysis of FIFI system for offshore supply vessel, hydraulic system design, sea water cooling circuit design and programming of Lloyds Shipping Rules onto the company's Altos 8000 mini computer.
