He also consults with technology companies to obtain research tax credits and other technology and marketing funding.Previously he has been a Founder, CEO, COO, CTO, Director or Mentor of a number of start-up and early stage companies and had several successful exits.He has obtained funding in excess of $50 million for technology companies resulting in successful new ventures. His early experience included helping change the Federal communications rules to allow data over radio, opening markets for today’s wireless data devices. Moving from space satellite systems, he began developing remote tele-operated vision systems for the Canadian Space Agency, NASA and the Institute of Ocean Science and several military groups. He then started his own medical devices and endoscopic imaging company with a public exit. He has successful hands-on experience with surgical device development, ISO 13485 manufacturing and obtaining FDA clearances. He was COO of a VC funded company that used bi-infringement materials and polarization for high speed 40 GigiBit fiber optics transmission that had a successful exit. He has been granted nine patents, published papers on military, space, subsea and surgical vision systems and co-authored several surgical book chapters on endoscopic imaging. A past member of a Credit Union Advisory Panel and an active mentor and jury member with the New Ventures BC Competition volunteering hundreds of hours mentoring early stage companies.Part time, he taught several management, entrepreneur and innovation courses in Technology Management degree program at the BC Institute of Technology.
