It is frequently necessary to devise an integrated solution to a whole cluster of requirements. Measurement, criteria and judgment in design is very subjective.Design problems always have external constraints. These can be just as influentialand inspirational at the opposite end of the spectrum of design as internal constraints which frequently consist of the majority of the design brief. The purpose of constraints is to ensure that the designed system performs the functions demanded of it as adequately as possible.Since design problems defy comprehensive description and offer an inexhaustible number of solutions the design process cannot have a finite and identifiable end. Designers do not aim to deal with questions of what is, how and why, but rather with what ought to be, could be and should be.
