    While I was writing my dissertation for the departments of Religious Studies and Philosophy at Yale, I moved back to NC for a year to be of help to my parents in their real estate business, if they needed me. I called friends at UNC to say hello and they asked me to teach! So I taught at Carolina while I was getting a real estate broker's license, helping my wife through her pregnancy for our first child, writing my dissertation, and then my second book, while applying for what would be my first full time job, at Notre Dame! A busy year!

    Taught at Yale and The University of New Haven prior to finishing my Ph.D. at Yale and moving on to Notre Dame. Yale was quite an experience. The philosophy faculty at the time was split down the middle, British and American analytic philosophy on one side, European continental philosophy on the other. Rhetorical RPGs lobbed shells back and forth continually. I somehow managed to stay friendly with at least most of the people on both sides. And I learned a lot about what organizational life can devolve into, without the right interventions.
