As The Chief Architect of Open Source in the Software Business Unit, Tom leads/manages a number of successful geographically dispersed teams with a total staff of 40+. He has been responsible for building commercial products based on open source, as well as contributions to upstream open source projects such as Open Daylight and Open Stack/Tacker. He is responsible for the architecture, strategy and development/delivery of these products, as well as relevant standards around these products including The Brocade SDN Controller (BSC), now regarded as the leading commercial distribution of Open Day Light. This product is now deployed at most of the Tier 1 service providers in North America, as well as at other carriers, enterprises and universities. ODL is also the primary SDN controller at the Massachusetts Open Cloud. Tom also reviews and manages patents in the SWBU. He sits on the Distinguished Engineer/Fellow Committee. He has participated in the formation of the Open Daylight, OPNFV, and Open-O organizations. Tom is also the Project Technical Lead (PTL) of the Open Daylight Spectrometer Project. Tom is the creator and PTL of The Public Yang Repository on Github, that is used as a central industry repository for Yang models and contains contributions from the IEEE, IETF, BBF and ODL.Tom is a member of the CTO Staff where he contributes to company-wide technology strategy decisions, architecture, and M&A.Tom participates and has played key roles in relevant standards at The IETF, IEEE, OPNFV, OSM, Open-O and Open Daylight.Tom was a key member of the account team that earned Brocade's Service Provider Challenger of the Year award in 2014.
