Corporate Legal, Freedom of Information (FOI) & Privacy Team Provided high quality, client focused, strategic and practical legal advice and assistance to all divisions of WorkSafe, WorkSafe/TAC joint collaborations and WorkSafe Agents, on various FOI & Privacy issues.Analysed and interpreted complex legislation, including the various Acts and Regulations at a high level and provided comprehensive, authoritative and practical FOI & Privacy advice, including advice on disclosure of information (internally and externally), privacy risks associated with new projects (Privacy Impact Assessments) and the processing of high profile FOI requests. Provided effective privacy breach management services including advice on containment of breaches, responding to privacy complaints, liaising with the Victorian Information Commissioner, advice regarding mitigation/training and analysis of monthly privacy breaches across WorkSafe and our Agents.Prepared briefing papers for Committees, the Board and Chief Executive on matters requiring their attention, including high profile FOI requests and privacy matters. Briefed and managed external counsel to provide high quality legal services on behalf of WorkSafe and/or joint collaborations when required. Prepared and delivered a range of legal education compliance programs in the FOI & Privacy space.

Compliance DivisionReporting to the Director of the Compliance Division, as Principal Legal Officer, Compliance, I provided specialist legal services in regulatory and administrative law matters to support a range of compliance activities in the complex area of gambling and liquor regulation. I provided independent and authoritative expert advice and legal leadership to the division to ensure that it delivered consistent high quality compliance, investigation, inspection and enforcement functions.

Prosecution Services - Regulatory Practice Branch - Employment, Investment and Trade GroupAs Senior Lawyer, I had lead responsibility for the prosecution of offenders in accordance with the Department’s enforcement policy for summary and indictable offences committed under legislation administered by DEDJTR. This included offences relating to animal health and cruelty, fisheries, aboriginal heritage, safety on public land, invasive species, game, chemical standards and plant standards. This role included direct supervision of legal and quasi legal staff. Appeared as counsel prosecuting in numerous mentions and pleas in the Magistrates Courts across Victoria, including;Appearing as counsel in a contested summary hearing in the Magistrates Court of Victoria regarding a prosecution involving compliance with the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994.Prosecuting Appeal in the County Court of Victoria in relation to an appeal against sentence regarding the Sustainable Forests (Timber) Act 2004.

Provided legal assistance and advice to Her Honour Coroner English and Her Honour Coroner Spooner. Analysed and evaluated legal issues to draft advice and documents such as letters, court forms and findings at the direction of the Coroner.Documented information in the relevant databases and files at all key stages of the investigation and ensured that all documentation was accurate, relevant, completed in a timely manner and stored in a secure manner.Liaised with Coroners and CCOV staff and advised the legal profession and other court users on procedures relevant to the smooth running of the CCOV.Communicated and disseminated information about the coronial process and procedure to all internal and external professionals and stakeholders as required.Appeared as counsel assisting the Coroner in complex mention hearings.

Managed large client base in busy criminal law practice in Melbourne, Moorabbin and Frankston. Appeared for clients as counsel in Magistrates' Courts across Victoria and the County Court of Victoria in a variety of summary and indictable matters, including; bail applications, plea hearings, contested hearings and appeals.Instructed counsel and assisted in the preparation of complex criminal trials in both the County Court and Supreme Court.
