I have spent the last 5 years working as a principal or assistant principal/AD. I have been responsible for student attendance and discipline for grades K-12. I have made numerous home visits for attendance issues. I have worked collaboratively with local law enforcement officials when the occasion called for their assistance. I brought the Oelweus anti-bullying program to Denver; this program has made a noticeable difference in our hallways and classrooms. I have spent time working with teachers to implement the use of technology in their classrooms to increase student engagement, which usually decreases discipline referrals. I have formed a very positive and supportive relationship with our student body, creating an environment where they feel comfortable coming to me with issues they need help with, or just a supportive ear to listen. I have always put the needs of the student first and foremost when decisions need to be made concerning attendance, discipline, or academic progress. I have helped improve the quality of our athletic programs starting with the fundamentals being taught in each program. I have orchestrated the replacement of our competition gym floor, and resurfaced our track so that we have a common finish line to compliment our automatic timing system we purchased.
