In 2012 I established a one-person, self-funded earth science prospecting business following retirement from a major oil company. Focus of this business is on water, carbon, and energy. The objective is to address issues identified in the National Academies Grand Challenges of Environmental Engineering: 1) sustainable food, water, and energy; 2) climate change and its impacts; 3) pollution & waste; 4) resilient cities; 5) informed decisions. I believe that working at the interface between environmental engineering and the earth sciences offers great opportunity to identify solutions for these significant environmental issues.Water: prospecting for new supplies of shallow subsurface fresh water utilizing subsurface mapping skill perfected in the O&G industry. Such water supplies to be utilized by communities & industries in need of new fresh water supplies. Also prospecting for deeper, warm fresh water supplies to be utilized in such industries as indoor aquaculture. Carbon: pursuing a novel nature-based, geoscience-based, negative emissions technology concept for carbon sequestration at scale.Energy: pursuing a mix of energy concepts including tapping deep, hot, permeable brine formations for district geothermal heat and/or power generation; a community based, shale-gas driven, district power generation coop concept; and exploring for shallow subsurface brines potentially enriched with lithium. Remain active in one onshore USA, conventional, stratigraphic oil play.Early engagement with potential investors is welcomed.
