Using the knowledge I have learnt from my level 4 and the experience I gained through my AP duty, I was promoted to the contracted role of a Senior Compliance Technician. This role is part of a newly formed Compliance team whose aim is to improve the building and maintenance compliance performance of the hospital. Initially, I was tasked with overseeing Wexham Park Hospital’s water and ventilation systems. This led me to overhauling the ventilation maintenance programme to bring it up to date with the latest of Health Technical Memorandum guidelines. I have also been tasked with overseeing a number of projects to improve the quality of our water systems, from a new HWS Return install to the safe removal of outlets to bring the hospital’s vision of waterless wards into a working environment.

In February 2023, I was promoted to a technicians role. In my new role I have continued to develop my understanding of the hospitals MEP systems, as well as the roles within my department and the organisation as a whole. Becoming a senior member of the team has meant I have faced more challenging tasks that require a complex approach to produce solutions. Through these new responsibilities, I have been able to develop not only my technical capabilities, but also my ability to lead other members of the team on in-house projects and the problems we face on a daily basis, providing effective solutions to issues that are not always easily addressed.The development of these skills gave me the confidence to undertake the training and be appointed as an Authorised Person for Ventilation. This additional responsibility has opened a number of opportunities for me within the trust and experience more involvement with the management of the estates department.In September 2023 I was placed on a Level 4 Senior Building Services Technician apprenticeship, which has provided me with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of those leading other engineers and technicians. My learning has consisted of a mix of MEP services knowledge and management skills.

I joined the staff bank just before beginning my studies In sixth form, working throughout the whole of lockdown 2020. Upon returning to school I took shifts during holidays and weekends. When I finished my studies I joined the department full time in June 2022. During my time with the Estates department I have learnt about electrical and mechanical systems within the hospital, how to service and maintain these systems as well as learnt how to install new additions to these systems. I have gained an understanding of statutory and hospital (HTM) regulations that must be upheld and the safe systems of work we abide by.
