About Tom Proebstle

Tom is founding partner and design director for Generator Studio, a Kansas City-based firm with many successful local projects as well as nationally prominent work focused on hospitality and professional sports teams. Current national clients include the St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning and Minnesota Vikings. Locally, Generator Studio continues to assist many communities in their revitalization, with projects such as Taco Republic in Kansas City, Kansas, the renovation to Corinth Square Shopping Center in Prairie Village, Kansas and a new hotel in the works in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Kansas City - the first in the modern era for Troost Ave. In 2012, Generator Studio won an international call for architects for a temporary pavilion on the South Lawn of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.Previously, Tom was founding partner and design director for Crawford Architects, overseeing the design work of the Kansas City and Sydney offices, with key projects the University of Northern Iowa’s McLeod Center, and the Seattle Seahawks’ VMAC training facility. From 1994 to 2001, Tom was an associate shareholder and lead project designer at Ellerbe Becket (AECOM). Cutting his teeth in sports and hospitality at Ellerbe, Tom soon led the design for Conseco Fieldhouse and the renovation to Lambeau Field – two once in a lifetime projects.Tom strongly believes in giving back to one’s community. He is a board member and long-time supporter of the Child Protection Center, as well as a supporter of Impact KC and the Women’s Employment Network. Additionally, Tom is a board member for the Center for Architecture & Design – a non-profit dedicated to bringing together the creative community as one voice.

    Generator is a full-service architecture firm opened in 2009 to expand on each our partner's 20+ years of experience with commercial projects both small and large in scale. Generator’s services include: Architecture; Interior Design; Planning and Urban Design; Consulting; Owner’s Representation and Sustainable Consulting. Our project types include commercial, mixed-use, T.I., residential, hospitality and sports. In times of far-reaching changes like now, a development team must embrace collaborative relationships and alternative project delivery methods to be the most responsive, responsible, and efficient to the project. Some of our most successful projects have been those where the general contractor was intimately involved from the very beginning of the project. Other keys to success are that the team must have a means of project communication in place (like Generator’s use of value centered design), Building Information Modeling (BIM), and even shared offices in a central location. All of these items, as diverse as they are, relate to communication; the most important element for any team under any project delivery method.
