Tom Reynolds was born in England and brought up in New Zealand where he graduated with an honours degree in architecture from Auckland University in 1979. He moved to the UK in 1980 and following a two-year stint in the office of YRM, spent the remainder of the 80s working for the Cassidy Taggart Partnership in London. Notable projects where he played a key role are the award-winning Hillingdon Railway Station and the BRIT School for the Performing Arts.Following his year in Italy in the Building Workshop of Renzo Piano, Tom set up Carter Reynolds with Howard Carter in 1994. The duo has a wide range of built work, including residential projects, healthcare centres, libraries, educational facility buildings and commercial office developments. They were published in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport’s sponsored book ‘New Architects’ (1998).In 2002 Tom left London and parted company with Howard Carter to begin his new practice in Poole, Dorset. The practice has grown from Tom as a sole practitioner, to a burgeoning office of three experienced architects, supported by an apprentice and admin team. The office also has a specialist interiors department delivering a bespoke service for its residential clients.Tom has formed collaborations with other architects, notably the late Kathryn Findlay and Richard Horden. He worked in partnership with Kathryn Findlay when they won the RIBA competition for Grafton New Hall, a new-build contemporary house in Cheshire. The practice has recently engaged in a joint venture procurement strategy for the Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) with Foster + Partners and HCLA, which was initiated by a collaborative partnering with Richard Horden.Tom is passionate about Poole and the County of Dorset. He participates in helping the homeless via local support networks and pressure groups. Through various charitable ventures in Kathmandu, Tom has enabled the upgrading of an old peoples’ home in Pushnapatinath. He is an experienced sailor and takes part in competitive yacht racing.
