An increase in responsibility for, and an increase duty to, the great members of my team and my colleagues at the Alaska Railroad. I'm the technical lead for Advanced Train Control System and responsible for a small, talented team of Systems Engineers. We maintain the stable operations of various safety systems as well as support our extensive quality assurance testing.

My duties include answering a wide range of technical challenges by smart use of System Design principles, Systems Engineering processes, and development technologies with a great team. I use the System Design principles to construct logical models that can be reviewed, scrutinized and improved to solve a technical challenge for the railroad. I take the systems design model and apply systems engineering processes to it to ensure appropriate supporting analysis and documentation occurs, and work with our developers to translate the design model and system requirements into a workable and achievable software solution.I have a great opportunity to work in a space I truly enjoy, but, also, get to work within teams in which we encourage one another to grow professionally and personally through direct feedback and mentoring moments.

My primary duties surround design review, system integration, implementation and testing of advanced train control hardware and software to comply with federal Positive Train Control (PTC) initiative. I act as a technical expert for system integration aspects of the PTC project when coordinating with other departments and vendors.Most recently, I proposed, created and currently manage the automated testing functions for the PTC project. Where myself, and a team of developers and SMEs, look for increased efficiency in end to end system testing using the TestPlant product, eggPlant.I supervise a team of college interns and young professionals in solving system support or software development challenges.

I teach a freshman level introduction to programming course that focuses on the Mathworks product called Matlab. I attempt to instill into my students the mindset and skills necessary to succeed as engineers.
