Patrol Police Officer – Assisted in establishing a newly founded police force from the ground up.This was a unique opportunity to help set new policies and meet the needs of the community.Patrolled one of the three beats of a commercially and residential diverse, mid-sized, urban center. As a new department, we were able to customize the service provided to a unique city which consists of every demographic from semi rural to urban.Field Training Officer – Improved a highly effective Field Training Officer program and provided leadership for over fifty officer trainees. This opportunity made me a better police officer as I had to maintain a standard of excellence and lead by example.Problem Oriented Police Officer • Presented at Neighborhood Association meetings, supported domestic violence programs, and worked with at risk youth. I have excellent communication skills which is necessary in the effective resolution of sometimes very stressful situations.• Initiated an innovative policing position establishing relationships between mall management, retail employees, and security staff. Implemented an effective Merchant Detention Program reducing theft incidences and improving overall security. It took a year to develop these relationships but the trust which was developed between police, management, security, staff and ultimately customers provided a much more secure and safe environment. As an added benefit this program also reduced the need of beat officer response.

Patrol Deputy Sheriff – Patrolled very diverse geographic and populated areas varying from tourist areas to migrant worker towns. Some of the challenges included non-English speakers, cultural diversity and mistrust of the police. I learned basic Spanish and developed trust and respect by recognizing the unique needs of the migrant, Mexican population. Field Training Officer – Trained and mentored deputy recruits. As a fairly new deputy myself, training offered me the opportunity to review, reinforce and refine my own skills.Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) – Provided tactical crisis response for the county jail. Prison is very stressful and negative requiring the skills to take command immediately and respond swiftly before situations accelerate to an uncontrollable environment .

My first job out of high school was as a box boy for the local grocer. I continued to work in the grocery industry as I matriculated through college. I worked very diligently and learned valuable business skills such as inventory, marketing and most importantly, customer service. My career in this industry culminated with the responsible position of assistant manager where I supervised over forty staff, accounted for sales receipts and for the safety and security of the staff and customers.
