With over 15 years of experience in public health, I am a passionate and skilled leader who strives to improve the health and well-being of communities in New Zealand. I have a partly completed Diploma in Public Health from the University of Otago, and a strong background in healthcare management, policy, and strategy. As the Team Leader Policy and Strategy at Te Whatu Ora Southern, I lead a team of professionals who provide advice, support, and advocacy on public health issues and initiatives across the Southern region.In my current role, I collaborate with various stakeholders, including local and central government, health service providers, iwi, and community groups, to develop and implement policies and strategies that address the social determinants of health, health equity, and environmental health. In the past I have managed staff in areas such as mental health promotion, health promoting schools, health promoting workplaces, housing, hazardous substances, and burials and cremation. Some of my recent achievements include securing funding for a warmer homes pilot project, developing a service plan for the Healthy Environments team, and facilitating a partnership with local councils to improve housing quality and affordability. I use my skills in public health service management to ensure that my team delivers high-quality and effective public health services and outcomes.
