I operated as system architect and system designer for public safety radio communication and SCADA systems, with subject matter expert role for mobile data and security. I was a member of the senior architecture team, providing architecture governance, targeted innovation, and architecture best practices for trunking and conventional radio businesses.• Led system security design for next-generation digital land-mobile radio (APX Next) and its end-to-end application ecosystem, greatly reducing the security risk for the new product, its associated applications and radio management service, and significantly reducing cost for radio software licensing.• Managed security design for integrity service for body-worn cameras, allowing recorded video to be admissible as legal evidence.• Led system design for first radio system that integrates LTE (4G) and traditional FM network interfaces with a dual-interface radio, enabling over-the-air software reprogramming of the radio via LTE which significantly reduces operational cost associated with local reprogramming via PC and cable.• Drove system design for first digital radio system for non-mission critical private commercial radio market (MotoTrbo), enabling Motorola to become the preeminent leader in the non-mission critical market.• Designed communication protocol between body-worn sensors and back-end servers, enabling enhanced safety for first responders. • Developed system design for first industry offering of a standards-based over-the-air encryption key management solution (OTAR), providing better protection for radio keys.• One of the primary system designers for the first IP-based packet switched radio network, allowing radio networks to scale up for state-wide coverage without requiring expensive circuit switches.• Served as chairman of TIA TR-8.3 Encryption Subcommittee for Project 25 radio system standards, with a commitment to minimizing security risk for the public safety radio industry.
