About Tom Smith

I am an experienced editor and research scientist from Ireland, now based in the north of Spain. I hold a PhD in geography and sustainable development from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and from 2018-2022 worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Environmental Studies at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. I was then a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow on the RESHORE (Participatory Pathways for Reshoring European Manufacturing) project at LMU, Munich. I have also been a researcher-in-residence at the Rachel Carson Centre, Munich and Freetown Christiania, Copenhagen. Aside from peer-reviewed literature, I have also edited and written on issues related to the environmental movement, ecology, society and economy, for various popular outlets including OpenDemocracy, the Earth Island Journal, Resilience.org, Humans & Nature, Dissident Voice & Dark Mountain.
