The work is varied and client driven and requires me to learn new techniques, languages, and skills quickly, often mixing many technologies at once. We currently work to a Agile methodology.I also oversee/guide our internal build approach and 'Sheppard' the code base.Additionally I organise the quarterly Foosball and Air Hockey tournaments for the office. Helping teams that wouldn't normal mix, mix, and start communicating over some lunch time competitive fun!I am also one of the office first aiders.

I was a lead member in a team of project managers delivering IT solutions at NHS GP practices/surgeries, hospitals and NHS teaching sites across Sussex. Projects ranged from site moves, to new builds, to updating old sites. I was involved in all stages of project management for the sites. Including being the first face of contact, technical consultant, IT support and on site customer care. I was the network and hardware specialist for the team.In this role I developed my customer services and diplomatic skills to a very high level. Not all surgeries wanted the new software and solutions, and I had to work with a range of people from surgery partners to service staff. All projects were carried out using the Prince 2 methodology.

Started the development of my private client IT business.During this time my biggest project was the installation and testing of 32 donated PC’s to a Sussex school. This included teacher training and creating a networked file management system for the school.I have many loyal clients as they appreciate my patience and ability to explain technical information simply.

The company specialised in ocean-vessel stability software for use with loading plans and insurance purposes.I was required to maintain the software and ensure it was kept up to date with government regulations and insurance company requirements. I also added new features and utilities. One feature of the software was that it allowed the user to see how best to load their cargo vessel with containers so that it had the least stresses and associated dangers. The contents of the cargo varied greatly (fluid, gas, solids) and made the calculations for testing stresses and weakness complex. Accurate mathematics was essential as mistakes could cost millions of pounds

For my time here the sole project was a Gunnery Simulator for the Royal Thai Navy. The simulation included a 280° screen, three full size replicas of Thai Navy air defence guns, 32 networked PCs to control and run the real-time (accurate to 1ms) simulation. I created the GUI for the simulation which included an OS map overlay feature, a graphical view of the battle field and statistical aerial ballistic information. Whilst also providing simple and clear battle setups and planning tools.

I worked with the lead programmer in merging two old code bases into a single new code base. This was done through a test harness to ensure backward compatibility and that every line of code had a unit test.All work was carried out to the extreme programming (XP) development methodology and testing standards.
