My name Thomas Cyrill Sulak. I’m known to most as Tom, close friends and family call me Tommy and the people that count most in this world call me Papa. I was born and raised in central Texas, about 6 miles west of West, Texas, just inside the Hill County line. We currently live is Ennis, Texas, in Ellis County, just south of Dallas, Texas on I 45. I graduated in a class of 16 from Aquilla High School in 1974, attended Hill Jr. College for 2 years before earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University (Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ’78). I put in 25 years working in the Ag fertilizer, chemical and seed industry (Farmland Industries Inc., Terra International, Agro Distribution and Land O’ Lakes). I was blessed when I married my life partner, Rita Jane Grmela in 1979. Rita is now retired from the State of Texas and Ennis ISD. Together we have raised two girls, both successful accountants with the accounting firm BDO. (Fightin’ Texas Aggie Classes of ’03 and ’07). God has blessed us with 4 of the most awesome grandbabies and counting!A series of events starting in 2000 set up a career change in 2003. I was hired to work for Ellis County as their “Dam Inspector”. For over 15 years my primary responsibility has been to assist the Ellis-Prairie SWCD to operate and maintain 86 Floodwater Retarding Sites in Ellis County. Utilizing a small maintenance budget from Ellis County and various State and Federal Grant Programs. I feel we have established a very successful working relationship between governmental entities in Ellis County. I think it is that I have had the immense pleasure of working with so many City, County, State and Federal personnel and organizations, too many to count. But it is more than just having worked with all these different Judges, Commissioners, District Attorneys, Engineers, Landowners, etc. It is much more about what I have learned from all these folks over the years that makes a difference as to who Tom Sulak is.
