About Tom Trabin

I am interested in consulting projects that draw upon a combination of my clinical, research, health policy and executive experiences in the behavioral health care field. I have provided consulting to over one hundred organizations in the areas of strategic planning, health care policy, organized systems of care, performance and outcome measurement, electronic health record design and implementation, quality improvement projects, and delivery of clinical services. Some of the executive positions I held were: Deputy Director, California Drug Medi-Cal EQRO; Alcohol and Drug Program Administrator, Alameda County; Associate Director of Adult Mental Health Services, Alameda County; Executive Director (and Co-Founder), Software and Technology Vendors’ Association; Director of Managed Care, U.S. Behavioral Health; and Associate Director, Behavioral Medicine Clinic, Abbott Northwestern Hospital. I helped promote and establish national standards and performance measures through over ten years of consulting work with SAMHSA and as a member of several national committees including the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Improving Quality in Behavioral Health Care, NCQA’s HEDIS Behavioral Health Committee and HL7’s EHR Technical Committee. I organized and chaired over 30 national and statewide conferences including the Behavioral Health Information Management Conference; was Associate Editor of the Behavioral Healthcare Journal; authored over 60 professional publications including several books; and presented at over 150 international, national and state conferences.
