About Tom Van Heijningen

For the last ten years, my professional experience has been working as a marina manager for Skipper Marine Development. After working as an Assistant Marina Manager at Racine's Reefpoint Marina, I moved to a position at Prairie Harbor Yacht Club working as the harbormaster there for seven years. Before coming to Skipper Marine Development, I studied hotel, restaurant, and tourism management. I decided to merge my love of the water, management background and interest in meeting new people by opening my own bar in downtown Milwaukee this fall. The bar will be called Blue Jacket and it will be a full service bar featuring a menu based on local, sustainable food, live music, and of course a place for water lovers alike. A small percentage of our proceeds will be given back to the Great Lakes. After working on Lake Michigan for over ten years I know the value of Lake Michigan and truly believe it is one of our greatest resources.     After ten great years at Skipper Marine Development, I finally decided to take the plunge and open my own bar in Walker's Point, an area near Lake Michigan in downtown Milwaukee. Blue Jacket will feature a full menu, live music, and hopefully be a hang out for boaters, sailors, and all lovers of the water. The bar's current opening date is late fall. This summer (along with a small team of contractors) I have spent my time building the bar. The exterior and some of the interior will be built out of reclaimed materials from a barn in Porterfield, Wisconsin.
