In March of 2016 Western Graphics was sold to Bolger Inc. I was part of a group of employees retained by Bolger as part of the process and was the Production Manager of the Kasota facility. Responsibilities included management of mailing, machine bindery, assembly and kitting departments.

As Production Manager at Western Graphics for close to twenty years I was able to grow both personally and professionally. Keeping up with newer technologies, adapting to ever changing work environments and adjusting to market place fluctuations in the printing industry were all part of daily business at Western. Areas managed included traditional offset printing, digital and large format printing, complete machine and hand bindery finishing as well as fulfillment and mailing areas. As Production Manager I was responsible for all production which took place in the Company including direct reports across first and second shifts as well as a weekend shift. The experience I have gained in 30+ years of working with people in a printing production environment has allowed me to develop strong management skills in motivating employees and creating a challenging and productive work environment while creating a team atmosphere. It is my belief that as a manager I should have a positive influence on each employee's growth and development. Ultimately, the performance of an individual that I manage will have an impact on my success. The last seven years at Western became a very exciting time for the company as we embarked on our "Lean Journey". It was indeed a journey as well as a process but also a period of excitement and renewed energy as every department and employee eventually began making contributions as the benefits of Lean became apparent to all. During this time I became a champion in the use of lean tools and continuous improvement strategies. Creating mobile equipment, production cell type manufacturing and flow based production are just a few examples of strategies implemented along the way. It became apparent to me during the process that not every improvement had to be a "Home Run" and the number of smaller improvements which had a positive impact are countless.

As a Plant Support Manager responsibilities included taking new equipment from testing to production, moving and installing equipment to new, out of state locations and creating training programs for new employees. Also responsible for creating productivity and accuracy goals for employees on newer equipment. Prior to this position previous responsibilities at Deluxe included Computer Forms Press Department Manager for five years where I was responsible for the daily production of 350 - 400 orders on several different types of equipment. Press operator for seven years, was one of the first press operators for the Company’s computer forms division and was responsible for the training of new operators. Pre press cutter operator for two years working third shift cutting all paper for the Company’s special litho line.
