Dr. Whidden has a long background in industrial and academic research. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry at Mt. Allison University in Sackville, N.B. and his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, N.B. Dr. Whidden began his career in industrial research investigating polymer catalysis and synthesis as a Senior Research Chemist with Dow Chemical Canada Inc. in Sarnia, Ontario. He later moved on to semiconductor process development as a Senior Staff Process Engineer with Advanced Semiconductor Materials America in Phoenix AZ. There he developed considerable expertise in the chemical processes associated with semiconductor device manufacture, especially chemical vapor deposition and plasma processing. In Academic endeavours, Dr. Whidden has developed graduate level courses and taught at the undergrad level. He carried out research on Nanolithography for Quantum Device manufacture while with the Centre for Solid State Electronics Research at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ and led a joint industry/academia research team, in partnership with the University of New Brunswick, that developed in situ chemical sensing methodologies and control protocols for application in chemical vapour deposition reactors. While Director of Research for Atlantic Hydrogen Inc., Dr. Whidden led research on the development of greenhouse gas free production methods for hydrogen from natural gas.Dr. Whidden has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, various patents and significant and successful research grant applications.
