About Tom Whitty

Tom Whitty is an Australian TV executive and multi-disciplined artist. His journalism as managing editor for The Project was nominated for three Walkley Awards (Australia’s highest journalism award) and led to national policy changes. It also resulted in millions of dollars in funding for various causes including support services for those suffering violence in the home, and others without a home at all. Whitty has won the equal-highest number of media awards from the United Nations for his work on climate change, empowerment of indigenous peoples, and social cohesion, through the segment, ‘Something We Should Talk About’, which Whitty created, co-wrote and directed for Waleed Aly on The Project. He has produced a number of wildly successful social impact campaigns that have fundamentally challenged and changed consumer behaviour across Australia. Whitty also created the ABC’s hugely popular Australia Talks program, which was nominated for the prestigious Rose d’Or for Best Studio Entertainment.Whitty is a comedy tragic, and has been lucky enough to work with some of the biggest comedians in the world. His obsession with comedy has led to Whitty writing a number of national comedy television shows in Australia as well as becoming the executive producer for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala. Most recently, Tom created his own comedy podcast, Time To Die, which he then developed into a TV format for Network Ten in Australia. Whitty is also a composer, and one half of the boutique production music studio, Circus Tree Sounds. With his writing partner of 20 years, Jimmy Saunders, Whitty has written much of the music that has accompanied his television work, including the themes for The Project (Network Ten), Australia Talks (ABC), Time To Die (Network Ten) and a variety of other commercial and independent productions. When he’s not doing the above, you’ll find Whitty making visual art. A keen creator and collector, Whitty’s work is often accompanied by intimate and sometimes hilarious observations about his subjects. You’ll find it at tomwhitty.com.au

In 2021, we asked 60,000 Australians a range of 600 questions about many issues that matter to Australians, and even some that don’t. Should the Covid vaccine be mandatory? Is racism prevalent in Australian sport? Are allegations of sexual assault almost always true? Should politicians resign if they lie to the public? Do you like your boss?
