The Manager of Land and People Connections (MLPC) oversees all land-based activities on roughly 12,000 acres of vernal pool, grassland, oak savannah, tidal marsh and wetland habitats owned by Solano Land Trust. These activities include livestock grazing; weed control and other vegetation management; resource monitoring; restoration and enhancement projects; outdoor recreation and learning; research projects; citizen science; construction, operation and maintenance the land trust’s facilities and infrastructure; utility right-of-ways and other commercial land uses; and robust volunteer engagement. The MLPC manages the Lands and People program, directly supervising several staff, coordinating with contractors and consultants, leading annual work planning and budget development, steering program priorities, and serving as the liaison between the program and the SLT Board of Directors. The MLPC reports directly to the Executive Director, and is a member of the staff leadership team guiding overall operations and planning. The MLPC also coordinates major land use partnerships, develops new projects and partnerships, leads adaptive management planning and plan implementation (including plans for habitat mitigation, visitor uses and education programs); guides administration of land use agreements; coordinates restoration and enhancement efforts (including visitor amenities); and directly manages some projects.

The Department has four divisions: Administration; Adult and Youth Activities; Business Services; and Aquatics/Sports/Facilities. As the Adult and Youth Activities Division Manager, I manage: afterschool, senior, and preschool programs; camps and contract classes; community events; registration/customer service; and the City’s Youth Commission.Key Accomplishments:§ Continually restructured the Adult and Youth Activities Division to remain fully operational through significant budget reductions during the recent recession.§ Assisted with the development and implemented the Department Reorganization Plan.§ Administered $700,000 (annual) California Department of Education After School Education and Safety (ASES) Grant.§ Serve as staff liaison to the Food Agriculture and Nutrition Network of Solano, Friends of the Fairfield Senior Center, Fairfield Community Services Foundation, and Quality of Life Task Force.§ Manage an annual budget of $2.4 million dollars.

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Job Corps program is authorized by Title I-C of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (supersedes WIA 1998). The Treasure Island Job Corps Center provides support to the Job Corps program’s mission to teach eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. As the Residential Living Department Manager, I managed: daily operations of the student residences; compliance with Department of Labor, OSHA, Res-Care (contractor), and Center policies; policies and procedures for effective record keeping and documentation; development and maintenance of department staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance appraisal, and discipline of staff.Key Accomplishments:§ Managed the $3.1 million Residential Living Department budget.§ Developed plan for implementation of student residential living and social skills programming.§ Implemented plan to transition Treasure Island Advanced Culinary Satellite to the Treasure Island Job Corps Center.

Supervision: 15 part time employeesWoodland is the county seat of Yolo County, California, located approximately 15 miles northwest of Sacramento, and is part of the Sacramento – Arden-Arcade-Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Woodland’s origins trace back to 1850 when California gained its statehood and Yolo County was established. Since the town started growing in population and resources, it has not stopped. The city gained a federal post office and the next year the county seat was moved from Washington (present day West Sacramento) to Woodland after Washington was flooded. The addition of a railroad like, the proximity to Sacramento, and the more recent addition of Interstate 5, helped create a thriving city. As a Recreation Coordinator, I developed and coordinated: afterschool programming, youth trips, midnight basketball programming, and assisted with special event programming and childcare camps.Key Accomplishments:§ Facilitated midnight basketball program.§ Coordinated and implemented NBA 3-ball program.§ Coordinated afterschool programming and youth trips.
