Among them, the university was in year four of a major enrollment decline and, in my first week on the job, an important college guide ranked the university as "the ugliest campus in the U.S." During my tenure, I developed and implemented one of the nation's first sophisticated enrollment management and marketing divisions. Responsibilities included managing and integrating the offices of traditional undergraduate, graduate, law, and adult admissions, financial aid, career planning and placement, registration and records, institutional marketing and advertising, enrollment research, and several grant-funded programs, including “Summer Bridge” and “Project Academus” (in partnership with the NFL and other professional sports organizations). I played a leadership role in DePaul's massive building and renovation effort that transformed both the Downtown and Lincoln Park campuses, exponentially expanded on-campus housing, and helped launch and enroll its first two suburban campuses (Oak Brook and O'hare). In my 9 years at DePaul, enrollment grew from 12,326 to 17,113 students, putting it on a trajectory to become what is today the largest Catholic university in the U.S. with 20,917 students.
