I’m CTO at SearchPilot, the world's first SEO A/B testing platform. I worked as an SEO consultant at Distilled for several years, working with some of the world’s largest companies on technical SEO. During this time, I conceived the idea for SearchPilot, which enables companies to precisely measure the impact of the SEO changes they are making.Previously I worked in academia, and am a published author of several peer reviewed research papers on Artificial Intelligence as part of my PhD research. Going further back, I was a freelance web developer, having built my first website in 1998.In addition, I’m an active security researcher, and have been paid bug bounties by a number of the world's largest tech companies. I enjoy applying security research principles to SEO, and have found several security issues with Google that impacted search; in 2018 Google paid me a security bounty which I believe is the only time they have paid a reward for revealing a blackhat SEO method.I’m an accomplished speaker and have spoken at numerous conferences around the world on both SEO and, more recently, security research.

It has since grown into a mature and battle tested platform, and spun out into an independent SaaS business.My role as VP Product is focused on taking the platform to the next level, by having and enacting a vision for how it can grow over the next few years. This covers everything from top level functionality, user experience, through to the statistical analysis engine and network infrastructure.This requires a strong understanding of the market and the needs of our customers, as well as the available technologies that we can leverage to build the platform. On any given day I may be ideating and building our tests with our consulting team, working with the engineering team to on our AWS based infrastructure, or co-ordinating a deployment with a client.In addition, I play an ambassador role travelling to conferences to talk about SEO split-testing, or other aspects of the SEO research that our team do. -

Over my time doing this I've reported numerous security vulnerabilities to a range of companies.I presented at H@cktivityCon 2022 in Las Vegas on research around fuzzing XSS sanitizers; research that led to several CVEs.HackerOne quoted me in the 2023 edition of their Annual Hacker Powered Security Report, and invited me to speak in the associated Webinar in January 2024.

This included integration with the database systems, and the management of those systems. Much of the store was customer PHP code that I wrote.I was also in charge of administration of the 5-6 Unix + Mac OS X servers, both on the hardware side and the software side. This includes upgrades, repairs, installations, and configuration. These were bare metal servers co-located in a data centre, and so the work included physical upgrades and repairs of the servers.In addition, I assembled and managed many teams of beta testers for various software projects, and worked closely with the developers to ensure a smooth development cycle.I attended trade shows, gave press interviews and assisted with customer support.
