The SearchPilot platform was a project that I ideated in my role as Head of R&D at Distilled. It has since grown into a mature and battle tested platform, and spun out into an independent SaaS business.My role as VP Product is focused on taking the platform to the next level, by having and enacting a vision for how it can grow over the next few years. This covers everything from top level functionality, user experience, through to the statistical analysis engine and network infrastructure.This requires a strong understanding of the market and the needs of our customers, as well as the available technologies that we can leverage to build the platform. On any given day I may be ideating and building our tests with our consulting team, working with the engineering team to on our AWS based infrastructure, or co-ordinating a deployment with a client.In addition, I play an ambassador role travelling to conferences to talk about SEO split-testing, or other aspects of the SEO research that our team do.

In my spare time, I do security research, primarily focusing on web application security for a number of bug bounty programs. Over my time doing this I've reported numerous security vulnerabilities to a range of companies.I presented at H@cktivityCon 2022 in Las Vegas on research around fuzzing XSS sanitizers; research that led to several CVEs.HackerOne quoted me in the 2023 edition of their Annual Hacker Powered Security Report, and invited me to speak in the associated Webinar in January 2024.

After ideating the DistilledODN (SearchPilot) platform as Head of R&D, I built the initial team and took the product to market. As the team grew my focus was on the technology (both the proxy tech and the testing methodology), as well as assisting on sales.During this time, the team grew from 3 to 14 before spinning out to be an independent company, SearchPilot, in Feb 2020.

I pitched internally that we should have an R&D Department, that worked on tools to automate processes and improve our data processing abilities. The team grew from just myself to a team of four, and we built various internal tools.One of the projects that I pitched was a proxy platform that could do SEO A/B Testing, which became DistilledODN, and grew into the main focus of the team.

I was a member of the Adaptive Systems Research Group, researching the Perception-Action Loop of Evolved Agents using an Information-Theoretic approach.My research focused on developing methods to drive intelligent behaviours in task-less scenarios. This, I believe, is an essential step towards developing computers that demonstrate 'human-like' intelligence.My research led to the publication of several peer reviewed conference/journal publications.I defended my thesis in December 2017.

I worked with a variety of companies, both in the UK, US and Caribbean on their Digital Marketing needs. This began as mostly website strategy and development, and moved towards increasing work on mobile development and SEO.Following the completion of the bulk of my PhD research, and a desire to gain agency experience and work with some larger companies I wound this down to join Distilled.

I was responsible for the development and maintenance of the online store, and management of the main website. This included integration with the database systems, and the management of those systems. Much of the store was customer PHP code that I wrote.I was also in charge of administration of the 5-6 Unix + Mac OS X servers, both on the hardware side and the software side. This includes upgrades, repairs, installations, and configuration. These were bare metal servers co-located in a data centre, and so the work included physical upgrades and repairs of the servers.In addition, I assembled and managed many teams of beta testers for various software projects, and worked closely with the developers to ensure a smooth development cycle.I attended trade shows, gave press interviews and assisted with customer support.
