As the Senior Vice President for the Exploitation of Light and Medium Crude and Gas Asset, I was accountable for the whole upstream process including management of the exploration portfolio, G&G and Reservoir Engineering studies, drilling design and operations, artificial lift, and production operations of both light/medium and gas assets in Colombia. The position covered the coordination of key in-company stakeholders, regulatory bodies, industrial shareholders' technical representatives, the service sector, and R&D institutes. Significant accomplishments include:• Conducted the formulation and implementation of growth master plan as a roadmap for guiding strategic investment decisions, tactical action plans, and new operational workflows, quickly steering actions to ensure business continuity despite the situation of low oil price and industry turmoil. • Credited for generating profitable production and 2P reserves gains from several field developments in the Llanos basin. Slashed development expenditures through the introduction of smarter and digitally enabled production processes, along with technical innovations in oil and gas wells drilling and completions, well productivity, and artificial lift systems. I provided technical leadership for the design and implementation of revitalization plans in several large reservoirs to increase production and recovery efficiency with IOR/EOR processes. Significant accomplishments include:• Spearheaded innovative reservoir management initiatives to optimize the development process including real-time well planning and follow-up, pad drilling, and clustering of injection and production facilities. These activities were articulated in a Master Plan, bought-in by all stakeholders• Boosted productivity and reservoir understanding through the deployment of under-balanced drilling (UBD) • Completed the incorporation of digital oilfield initiatives including intensive surveillance and data mining workflows for right-time waterflood pattern balancing in new large-scale development projects and improve performance of a miscible gas injection project.• Played a key role in the professional development of young professionals by providing ways to refine their talents.

As the Gas Development Manager for Asab and Undeveloped Reservoirs, I formulated a new strategy to boost gas and condensate production, and oversaw interdisciplinary teams in the design, implementation, and tracking of rejuvenation plans for major gas condensate recycling projects. In addition, I also conducted appraisal and supervised early production programs of several undeveloped gas reservoirs (UDR) in the Abu Dhabi region. Other duties include facilitating discussion of best practices and lessons learned within the company, and mentoring local workforce and expats on a wide range of technical, economic evaluation, and risk management issues.

As an independent Petroleum Management Consultant, I provided guidance to a large Latin American NOC in incorporating innovation management as a key element in its strategic framing, E&P peer reviews and decision-making Value Assurance Processes. Significant accomplishments include:• Improved production performance and added reserves in challenging assets. • Formulated sound recommendations for implementing technology-centric asset developments in offshore and IOR in mature field redevelopment.

As the Corporate Geosciences and Reservoir Engineering Manager, I was in charge of a massive field development planning work, which led to a significant improvement in the company's portfolio through quick appraisal and integration of modern methods for the development of green fields and rejuvenation of mature reervoirs. Significant accomplishments include:• Introduced new technologies such as Geologically Optimized Infill Drilling and IOR for multiple large-scale projects such as unconventional tight gas developments, and chemical and thermal EOR initiatives.• Played an essential role in the development and execution of a peer and executive review process which led to an optimized portfolio, approval of a renovated business plan, project sanctioning, and compliance with budget and execution plans. • Delivered key contributions to improvement of the company’s valuation and performance in terms of reserve addition and increased resource base.

As the founder and Chief Executive Officer, I was principal strategist and visionary for an innovative start-up formed by a network enterprise which focused on connecting knowledge companies and specialized technology companies for improving production performance in challenging assets. Other duties include coordinating efforts to address business challenges faced by operation and service companies in various locations, and consulting on technology-centric asset developments in extra-heavy oilfields, smart field initiatives, deep-water projects, operational excellence, and business cases for strategic innovation.The work spanned work in several regions including all Venezuelan basins, Middle Magdalena Valley in Colombia, Sur and Campeche in Mexico, USA, Canada, Netherlands, Niger Delta in Nigeria, and Neuquen Basin in Argentina.

Led the challenging operation of one of the largest oil and gas production divisions in the world. Managed the production of 1.3 million BOPD and 2700 MMSCF/D along with 5,500 experts and a team of 90 executives. Production and value creation goals greatly exceeded expectations. Many opportunities for dormant assets were motorized (heavy oils by steam soak, deep gas resources, WAG project in HPHT reservoirs, among others). Designed and implemented a strategy to promote a much larger integration between the key organizations of integrated field studies, production technology, production operations, and drilling engineering to improve short-term production results and reduce unit technical costs. Promoted the construction of Collaborative Work Environment in the operational areas to improve multidisciplinary team’s integration, reduce costs, and boost productivity. Three immersive visualization rooms and 26 advanced surveillance spaces were constructed in the assets across the Venezuelan geography. Supervised the development of 18 assets being operated by national and international firms with great success in terms of production and value gains. Presented strategy and business performance to shareholders in the private and government sectors to get buy-in of the strategies and project funding.

Established successful joint ventures between two public universities (UCV and UDO) and PDVSA to improve the quality of graduates, contribute to university funding, and cultivate an innovative model of social responsibility with the communities around the operations sites. The strategies were implemented, and marginal fields were revitalized following the Field Development Plans shaped during this posting. The Venezuelan academic community improved notably by their exposure to field operations and O&G business practices. Knowledge Management practices were deployed, improving the know-how of graduates, and its rapid incorporation as productive O&G professionals. Cultivated intellectual bonds with the national and international academic communities.

Presided over Board of Directors of two Joint Ventures (Carbones del Guasare and Carbones de la Guajira) with prestigious North American, German and South African partners. Negotiated new terms for the JVA in win-win terms. In 2001, the companies achieved the best historical business performance in terms of revenues, ROCE, ROA, net profits, HSE, royalties and cash dividend retribution. Formulated a growth strategy for the Venezuelan Coal Industry, which was bought-in by the Board of Directors of the NOC PDVSA and the Ministry of Energy. Built effective connections within the coal business world, as well as key ties with the Venezuelan government to gain acceptance of the growth strategy: Regional Governor and his executive team, province mayors, Parliament leaders, National Military officials; Secretaries of Energy and Mines, Congress committees, and Environmental affairs officers.

Planned and developed new directions in technological development, geared to boost intellectual and relationship capital, and the value of technology as an asset. Invented the concept of The Integrated Field Laboratory, a highly successful strategic innovation process that went much beyond the classical technology pilot testing. This effective implementation of this innovation concept, together with the introduction of Knowledge Communities, and the Competence Development Strategies were key success factors in boosting oil and gas production and capabilities development at PDVSA that positioned the company to be recognized as one of the best in class in the globe, with a very strong portfolio of high value/low risk projects. Developed a vision for the Oil Field of the Future, incorporating novel recovery processes, high-value drilling schemes, immersive visualization and proactive reservoir surveillance. Fourteen of the above-mentioned Integrated Field Laboratories were successfully implemented leading to increased production and reserves through innovations such as intense pattern water-flooding, and IOR/EOR such WAG and SAGD. In addition, championed major Capabilities Management initiatives which led to improvements in the core competence levels of graduates, experienced professionals, and domain experts. Launched a ground-breaking technical training program for managers and top executives of the newly integrated PDVSA with outstanding results. Served as Director of Administradora La Ceiba, a JV formed by Mobil, Nippon Oil, Veba Oil and PDVSA.
