Thomas Baylis has practiced in the area of commercial litigation for over 25 years. Mr. Baylis has represented a broad array of clients including those in the areas of commercial lending, real estate, construction law and telecommunications. Mr. Baylis regularly practices before the federal courts in New York as well as in the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He has represented lenders in commercial foreclosure actions, loan restructurings and workouts. Mr. Baylis has litigated a wide variety of issues in foreclosure actions including defenses and counterclaims alleging lender liability, fraud and violations of various statutes and regulations governing mortgage loans. Mr. Baylis has also represented mezzanine lenders and holders of preferred equity in connection with defaulted loans. He also represents contractors and others in the construction field in contact disputes and mechanic’s lien matters. Mr. Baylis was lead counsel in the landmark zoning action entitled Retail Property Trust v. Board of Zoning Appeals of Town of Hempstead, 98 N.Y.2d 190, 746 N.Y.S.2d 662 (2002).
