Now retired from teaching and journalism. I volunteer twice a week as a meal deliverer for Syracuse Meals on Wheels. I'm a Book Buddy to a second-grader and third-grader in the Syracuse City School District -- they practice reading to me as part of the district's phonics instruction en route to becoming readers. What a joy that is! I donate platelets twice a month (one of those times usually also includes plasma) at the American Red Cross. Platelets often go to people who are battling cancer. I'm a member of the Race Matters Book Club, member of the Governing Board of University United Methodist Church and the church's representative to the Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse and to the Interfaith Racial Equity Network in CNY. I am also a member of the Town of DeWitt Democratic Committee.Substantial experience as a newspaper journalist and educator. I have a strong interest in teaching and obtained a master's in education after years of working in a city newsroom. I have taught in both public school classrooms as a substitute teacher and in the university and community college settings as a journalism instructor. For four years, I was faculty adviser to the student newspaper at a community college, which under my leadership won its first awards for writing from the local press club. I enjoy interacting with young people in a learning environment where I can support and guide them as they discover and develop their unique aptitudes and skills.Specialties: Compassionate, p....a....t....i....e...n....t, detail oriented, strong editing skills, mass media & journalism instruction.
