You might say I was bred to be in the ad business. My ad-man father and newspaper-woman mother seemed to have predetermined my destiny. It's no surprise then that my first real job was that of a print production manager for an ad agency.But there was something missing. I wasn't satisfied with just producing other people's work. I wanted to create it. I wanted to be the one changing brand perceptions, influencing buying decisions, finding new ways of reaching people, and, at the same time, making clients happy. So that's what I did. I became a student of creative communication. Learning from the great work (and mistakes) of every writer, art director and CD that I ever worked with, I recreated myself. I studied what things made clients happy and what things pissed them off. My goal was to create award-winning, business-landing, needle-moving work, all while maintaining a good client relationship. After a few years of conducting my own ethnographic study on creative communication, working hands-on at the agency to hone my craft, (and later enrolling at the Maryland Institute College of art to receive formal design training), I made the the formal transition to art director in 2000. Doing this, without having to change agencies is a testament to my abilities.Since then it's been a blast growing and evolving with this ever-evolving business. As an ACD I have more of an opportunity to creatively influence decisions, and as importantly, to be influenced by the young talent that I have the privilege of working with every day.
