Recruited to oversee the development and operation of the city park system, recreational facilities, and programs. * Lead day-to-day activities and vision in planning, implementing, and managing municipal Parks and Recreation department operations to achieve the strategic objectives of the department and the City in an efficient and effective manner.* Manage an extensive system of 7 city parks, 15 athletic fields, basketball courts, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, a nature preserve, 4 lakes, an extensive trail system, and RiverChase – a 71,000 s.f. recreation complex with indoor/outdoor pools, exercise equipment, basketball courts, indoor track, fitness/weight area, meeting rooms, game room and day care services.* Developed a wide variety of program activities and sports leagues for all ages, and created a new membership category to increase revenue and to expand the paid membership base to 4,500 people within a 7 mile service radius. * Administer an annual operating budget of $4.8 million, and provide direction, leadership and development of 7 full-time direct reports, and a seasonal / part-time staff of up to 100 people; ensure compliance with safety programs & procedures.* Utilize skills in organizing and programming athletic and recreation activities, budget and financial management, team leadership and motivation, and knowledge of recreation center operations, capital improvements, and event planning.* Direct the evaluation, selection and administration of outside contracts for parks and recreation activities.* Write grant applications, RFP specifications, bid documents, website content, and sales & marketing pieces. * Maintain regular communications with P&R Beautification Committee, City Administrator, and the Board of Aldermen.
