With a crew of 8 Technicians we systematically removed the switch which involve; Switch shutdown, removal of power packs, Line cards, PM cards, power and cabling mining (making sure techs were aware of live traffic on the racks and the location of the live cables), earthquake ironwork removal, Frame wiring and block removal, 105 SL-100 switch bays, coordinating with local moving trucks for shipping and removing all contents of the switch.

After all documentation was completed, each team was assigned to a military post and would fly there for a site visit to meet with the post commanders and other personnel to discuss and prepare for equipment installation. There would be 3 site visits. Site visit, site survey and site installation. Site rack equipment includes: iSCSI switches, app servers, disk storage array, backup tape drives, Lan switch. Office processing equipment includes: printers, scanners, desktop computers, etc.

Work directly with the cell site technicians to ensure the correct installation of the LMU’s, (location measuring units), cable and wave guide types and lengths to insure accurate delay, insertion lose measurements, accurate TREMBLE GPS tower location, height, and elevation GPS antena location, height and elevation, and other measurements for accuracy so that the SMLC, (SERVING MOBILE LOCATION CENTER) can perform correct calculations for locating the mobile phones and other mobile devices location using TDOA technology, (TIME DIFFERENCE OF ARRIVAL). Once the LMU has been programmed with the correct information, I will test for connectivity from the MTSO to the cell site T-1s using test ports from the Tellabs 5500 DACS. After drive testers complete their daily routes, I then send all the data for the engineers to analyze.

Telecom ProvisionerI-Tech Nov 2001 - Mar 2002Responsibilities include: Running test on T-1’s coming from approx. 120 Wireless towers to the mobile switching office, (MTSO), These test were done with the T-BERD test set from the patch panel at the MSO. After head to head testing with the field techs at the Mobile tower site, I would then run extensive test on the T-1’s that include different test patterns, 3 in 24, 1 in 8, QRSS, all ones, all zeros, Bridge-tap and multi-pat. T-1’s were then tested for 24 hours. After each T-1 passed all test error free, I would then accept the T-1’s and notify the local telco. I would then go to the TELLABS 5500/532 DACS and map the T-1’s to the correct DS-3, either to our Switch or to the local Telco. Also responsible for hard wiring and turn-up of the SS7 links to the network.

This job consists of testing and characterization of the fiber trunks, internal equipment fiber connections and network node connections. The Optical equipment in this network includes the Sorrento (Osicom) Gigamux (32 channel metro and long haul metro DWDM system), Cisco Cerent 15454 equipment that host DS-1, DS-3, OC-3, OC12, and OC-48 cards which are muxed onto the Sorrento Gigamux DWDM for single fiber 2.4 gig Transmission. The Sorrento Gigamux DWDM then splits this fiber for Primary and Secondary ring protection. Testing responsibilities include; testing fiber trunks with the T-BERD 2310-2000 Test pad, for Bit errors, line, path and section errors, and dB power levels, ect.... Using an optical time-domain refractometer (OTDR) on optical trunks between nodes for dirty or bad fiber connectors, splice losses, reflectance loss, ect... Also using the EXFO Optical Spectrum analyzer to check for correct channel freq. alignment, noise and dispersion. These testing tools provide the information to properly analyze the SONET network for reliable, trouble free live traffic transmission
