My responsibilities were extended to include overseeing the establishment of the EnegyStar certification lab in Morrisville. o Results: Announcement of both the High Voltage DC and -48V DC support for the PrueFlex chassiso First qualified EnergyStar certification from the Morrisville lab (x3750 M4)
Technical Project Manager
Researched, planned and directed BladeCenter switch software development, including conducting detailed marketing analysis. Results: received IBM highest performance ratingManaged the development of a heart-monitoring device for an external customer. Results: $5.4 million contract project was $309K under budget and 7 weeks ahead of schedule, GM 37.4% exceeding business case by 6% with customer satisfaction rating of 90%. Managed an international team of 20 people in the development and delivery of software tools for the IBM Cell Processor. Results: release of the first set of performance tools to be included in the Cell Software Developers Kit.Planned, directed and led my team in the creation of the first set of SystemC models to be developed for PowerPC processor and core components. Results: Successful release of the fully tested models to development
Senior System Analysts And Performance Modeler
• Commissioned by an IBM Distinguished Engineer, I conducted an extensive competitive marketing and performance analysis for embedded PowerPC system comparing the PowerPC with ARM, MIPS and x86 based alternative architectures. My analysis included a study of hardware performance of the various implementations, and an investigation into the software technologies supporting the different platforms. The study also looked into the power constraints of the different environments. o Results: This study correctly predicted the industry move to lower power multiple core designs resulting in IBM decisions to change its strategy in the embedded processor marketing space. • Technical Lead and architect for the design and implementation of an advanced cycle accurate processor model (written in CSIM) that was used in the development of the IBM PowerPC systems. This flexible cycle accurate simulation model has been used for multiple generations of the PowerPC, including the PowerPC450, PowerPC460 and the PowerPC core used in the XBox360. The model was also successfully extended for use in the evaluation of the impact of multiple thread core architectures. This model was further extended to include accurate power consumption projections for the embedded processor designs. o Results: These models were key in the development of the PPC450, PPC460 and xBox360. A version of the model was later sold to AMCC for $0.5 million. I received a corporate level Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. I also received IBM’s highest performance rating.• As requested by an IBM Fellow, I conducted a detailed marketing analysis of the network processing market conditions. This work included a detailed study of both the high end systems from vendors, such as Juniper and CISCO, to network processors from companies such as Intel and EZChips. o Results: My work was critical in IBM’s decisions to withdraw from the network processor market.
Senior System Analysts And Modeler
• As Chief Performance Architect for the IBM PC Company, I developed a set of analytical models that were used to analyze the performance of the IBM Micro Kernel that was being developed for the IBM PC. o Results: This work helped in determining the critical area of performance problems for the Micro Kernel. • Technical lead for the IBMPC performance team. I conducted on-going analysis of next generation x86 systems using both simulation and analytical tools. o Results: The performance projections were used in establishing the price point for multiple generations of IBM’s x86 servers. As a result of my efforts I received IBM’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.• Technical lead and architect for the creation of IBM’s first trace driven cycle accurate processor simulation model for the Intel x86 family of processors. This model, which was written in C, was used for the development of a number of generations of chipsets for the IBM x86 systems. The model was key in the development of the IBM 386SX processor chip and its supporting chipsets. The unique latching feature of this model was patented and used in a number of generations of simulation models.o Results: Release of IBM first x86 systems with store-in L2 caches, and release of the IBM 386SX. As a result of my efforts I received IBM’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.
