Tom is a leader in creative industries, education, and innovation. As a Professor and Chair of Creative Technologies at the University of Adelaide, he founded the Sia Furler Institute, which focuses on creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law, and Economics.In 2019, Tom co-founded the Art Intelligence Agency at the University of Adelaide, launching the world's first AI Artist in Residence program. This groundbreaking initiative, featuring inaugural invitee Laurie Anderson, garnered international attention, including coverage in the New York Times and on 60 Minutes. The program's outputs have been showcased at prestigious venues such as Harvard University's Norton Lectures and the Smithsonian Museum.The Australian Federal Government awarded Tom a Distinguished Talent Visa. Within months of his arrival, he spearheaded an initiative that transformed Adelaide into the nation's first gigabit city, earning him the title of Chief Innovator of South Australia for 2017-2018. In this role, he led a delegation to the White House, securing Adelaide's membership as the first international city in the US Ignite Smart City Program.Tom's background in the creative industries includes co-founding tomandandy in 1990, a company that redefined the role of music in visual media and grew to become one of the largest music media companies globally. His collaborations span from renowned artists like U2 and Lou Reed to major corporations such as Microsoft, Ford, and Coca-Cola.Tom also advises Disrupter, a company specializing in digital infrastructure solutions that harness AI, Web3, state-of-the-art network architecture, and breakthrough computation techniques. This experience positions him at the forefront of integrating advanced technologies into creative and educational contexts.Tom has presented at prestigious forums, including the original TED Conference and the CalTech/MIT Forum. He has served on numerous award juries, been a member of the Digital Advisory Group for the Australia Council for the Arts, and mentored emerging talent through programs like the Founder Institute. Tom holds a Ph.D. and MFA from Princeton University and a Presidential MBA from Pepperdine University.
