United States Army Infantry Enlisted Man and Officer. Rank E1 (Private) - 03 (Captain). Studied at Infantry Officer Candidate School at Ft., Benning, Georgia, graduating in May of 1967, after having been stationed at the 82ND Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Later: Studied Saigon dialect Vietnamese at the US Army Defense Language Institute Support Command at Ft. Bliss, Texas for one year, graduating number two in a class composed of 60+ infantry intelligence officers and enlisted men. Worked as a non- Special Forces officer in the capacity of a Special Forces B Team Intelligence Officer, specializing in map reading, translation of documents from Vietnamese to English, and in liaison with South Vietnamese military personnel in a non-combat zone. Worked as an Executive Officer of an A Team in Okinawa, Japan, from August 1968 - January 1969. Left active duty after five years as an enlisted man and officer in 1970 and returned to school in February of 1971 using my veterans benefits and a scholarship. Graduated with a BA in history after one and one half years from the University of San Francisco. Total time spent as an undergraduate: three years. Total military time including Total Military Service: six years plus.
