Tom is the Founder of the Oxford Bach Soloists, and the Director of Music at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas, TX. A recognised authority in choral conducting, Tom embarked on his musical journey at the University of Oxford and further refined his craft under the mentorship of Paul Spicer at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He has gained global acclaim as one of the top choral conductors in the world.In 2017, Tom founded the Oxford Bach Soloists (OBS) with the mission of performing the complete works of Johann Sebastian Bach chronologically and programmed in real-time. Under Tom's leadership, the ensemble has been celebrated worldwide for its authentic performances, capturing the hearts of both seasoned and new Bach enthusiasts.Tom has previously served as the Director of Music at Wadham College, Oxford, and the City Church of Oxford (St Michael at the North Gate). In these roles, he developed and managed successful music programmes, directed their renowned choirs, and curated innovative artistic events, contributing significantly to the musical and cultural landscapes of Oxford.Also a professional countertenor, Tom has performed with the Choir of New College Oxford and appeared in major venues across the world, including the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.Born in London to British-American parents, Tom’s early years were shaped by the choral and organ traditions of London and a Benedictine school in Sussex. This eclectic background laid the foundation for an ecumenical outlook that blends Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism, and a scholarly passion for Bach’s Lutheran legacy.Driven by a profound sense of vocation, Tom felt a call to serve at Saint Michael and All Angels after two decades in Oxford. Ready for a new chapter, he was drawn to the bold spirit and warm community of Dallas. Tom is eager to share his love of music, especially Bach.Outside the concert hall and church, Tom enjoys time spent with his husband, Paull, and their border collie, Meg, exploring the outdoors.
