I’m a Research Director, and Head of the Survey Research Methods Centre at Ipsos UK.The challenge of how we can best measure and understand the attitudes, experiences, and behaviours of different population groups has always interested me. There is so much room for error, and it is all too easy to focus one’s efforts on minimising one risk to accuracy, while neglecting far greater ones. In my role, I design and carry out research to understand how we can optimise survey methods, looking at everything from questionnaire design, response rates and nonresponse bias, mixed-mode approaches, innovative data collection techniques, and sampling and weighting strategies.I have worked on a broad range of large-scale, high-quality social research studies, including the REACT COVID-19 Infection Study (for the Department for Health and Social Care, partnering with Imperial College London), the Childcare and Early Years Survey of Parents (for the Department for Education), the Millennium Cohort Study (for the Centre for Longitudinal Studies), the Active Lives Survey (for Sport England), the Wellcome Trust Monitor (for the Wellcome Trust), and the Witness and Victim Experiences Survey (for the Ministry of Justice).I have a Ph.D in Social Psychology, from Cardiff University.
