Director (Ceo)Glasgow School Of Art 2013 - 2018Glasgow, GbWhilst leading Glasgow School of Art, the School of Simulation & Visualisation (2016), the Innovation School (2017) and GSA’s Open Studio programme (2016) were launched, GSA’s campus in Singapore was developed in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Technology, new collaborations in China were established and GSA’s campus in the Highlands of Scotland was opened in partnership with Highland & islands Enterprise (2017). During the period, GSA moved from 20th to 8th position in the QS world rankings and became one of Scotland's top 3 universities for widening access for disadvantaged students. Annual turnover increased from £27 to £40 million and £75 million was invested over five years in estates development. In 2014 the Reid Building was opened as the new home for the School of Design. In 2016 the Stow Building and 4 acre site was purchased and refurbished as the new home for the School of Fine Art. Between 2014-2018 the Mackintosh Building under went a £35 million restoration. -

During my 3-year tenure as Dean of DJCAD new PGT programmes in Design for Services (2010) and Design Ethnography (2010) and Art & Humanities (2011) were established and DJCAD's estate was extensively remodelled . I played a key role in the University of Dundee’s contribution to the development of the V&A Dundee. I was PI on the AHRC Design Management Metamorphosis Network in collaboration with University of the Arts, London (2010-2012). As Director of Research for the College of Arts, Science & Engineering I provided research leadership across DJCAD, School of Engineering, Physics & Mathematics and the School of Computing. -
Director, Designing For The 21St CenturyEpsrc 2004 - 2010Swindon, England, GbIn July 2004 I was appointed, to the National role of Initiative Director for the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Engineering Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) ‘Designing for the 21st Century’ (D21) Research Programme. This involved secondment to the AHRC/EPSRC to provide intellectual leadership for this £6.5million programme involving 41 design research projects, hosted in universities across the UK. The portfolio included the UK Research Council's first investment in (then) new design research areas. These included; service design, design policy, design & the circular economy and design & complexity science. -
Director, Design Research CentreBrunel University 1990 - 2000Uxbridge, Middlesex, GbIn 1996 I was appointed as Director of the Design Research Centre (DRC) at the School of Design, Brunel University. The DRC became the UK leader for design-led Knowledge Transfer Programmes with 15 KTPs in place across the UK. My PhD explored the impact of enhancing design capability of small companies, this led to the development of Design Atlas for the UK Design Council. In 1999 I developed and delivered Design Council, Design Atlas training for the UK Business Link, Design Counsellors. -
