The Student Mobility Coordinator role coordinates the outbound and inbound mobility efforts of the University of Wollongong (UOW) which currently shares a caseload of approximately 1400 participants per year. The role includes case management of outgoing and incoming participants through all phases of their experience: application and acceptance of the offer; preparation for departure and arrival; period of study overseas; and return to studies at their home university. The role also has responsibility for the allocation of Australian government and UOW travel grants, as well as distribution of participants to destinations in line with strategic priorities and balances (outgoing versus incoming EFTSL). It requires ongoing liaison with outgoing and incoming participants and advisers, including providing advice on a range of questions and issues including program and subject choice, admissions, housing, financial, re-entry, health and safety issues. The role includes the coordination of promotional collateral and overseas recruitment events.

The purpose of this role is to design, implement and evaluate a number of new outreach programs that link STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) strategies with students’ passions and interests. A key part of this role has been the development, delivery and evaluation of five pilot programs that have directly engaged approx. 600 students in primary and high school as well as 125 teachers in STEM related fields – successfully building the capacity of local communities with high proportions of low socioeconomic students, their teachers and parents to engage with STEM and higher education.
