I'm a lecturer in the International Communication programme at Hanzehogeschool Groningen University of Applied Sciences, where I teach writing, speaking and digital skills, as well as being a project coach for students of journalism and documentary filmmaking. In addition, I am coordinator of the Journalism Minor programme and of student admissions to the International Communication Bachelor programme. I also supervise internships, and I am an academic counsellor for first-year students.English is my first language, but I grew up and received my education in the Netherlands and am fluent in Dutch.I have recently trained as a qualified mediator and am currently doing volunteer work for Buurtbemiddeling (a free service for conflict resolution between neighbours). As a freelancer I am regularly asked to host or moderate English-spoken events as an interviewer. I also have extensive experience as a voice actor, in both Dutch and English. Over many years I have done numerous recordings for publishers, providing audio ranging from educational material to children's books.I have a BA and MA in American Studies from the University of Groningen. My studies focused on American culture, with an emphasis on fiction and cultural memory.I spent many years with Stranger Things Have Happened, a theatre and comedy organisation. I am one of the organisation's founding members, and am Chair of the foundation. When active within the organisation, I was an improviser and actor, performing public and privately booked shows for over a decade. I served as the organisation's booking manager and PR manager at various times. In addition I have experience teaching improvisation and improvised acting.Beyond Stranger Things Have Happened I have been involved in many stage productions and various small film projects as an actor.I previously worked full-time as a translator/corrector at Jensen Localization, and as a freelance translator.
