The summer of 2011 and the summer of 2012 I volunteered over 200 hours of my time at the Fray Angélico Chávez History Library. My primary duty there was copy cataloging a large collection of print materials that had been donated to the library. The collection was quite diverse and consisted of books and documents relating to atomic energy, nuclear weapons and the nuclear age in general. As such, I searched WorldCat and edited MARC records for everything from monographs and novels to government documents and safety pamphlets, and I created item records for these materials in the library's Horizon system as well as processing and shelving them once cataloging was complete. Among my duties was creating DDC call numbers and assigning LCSH subjects for materials. I also helped to catalog portions of the Library’s large historic maps collection.
