I am an Australian lawyer with degrees in commerce (accounting) and law, and postgraduate qualifications in law from the United Kingdom and Germany.I am admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.My doctoral thesis is in the field of comparative constitutional law, focusing on the limits to judicial power in the United States and in English law, although my academic and professional interests are considerably broader than this, including other areas of public law, legal and constitutional theory, as well as private law.Prior to undertaking postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom and in Germany I worked in Australia as a tipstaff and judge's associate to two judges in New South Wales.I have extensive work experience in research and public policy in the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, New Zealand and Australia.I am fluent in German and proficient in French. In addition to Australian law, English law and other common law systems I have a good working knowledge of German law and related legal systems.I am currently a lecturer in law at the University of Newcastle where I teach and research in constitutional law, administrative law, jurisprudence (or legal theory) and property law.
